PADI Junior Open Water Diver

The PADI Junior Open Water Course is based on the regular PADI Open Water Course, with a few age appropriate restrictions.

  • The student must be minimum aged 10 and be able to swim.
  • Divers 10-11 years old must dive with a PADI Instructor.
  • Dives cannot exceed 12 meters/40 feet.

This is a comprehensive course aimed at becoming a safe diver capable of planing and enjoying diving , as well as looking after equipment and the underwater environment.

  • The course consists of the student reading the Open Water manual and following it up with videos, knowledge development questionnaires and quizzes, corresponding to the 5 sections in the manual.
  • Following this there is an exam (Relax, it's multiple choice!).
  • The practical development begins with confined water sessions (shallow water training of skills), a 300 m swim and a 10 min tread water.
  • On completion of the above you get to put into practice all you have learned during the 4 Open Water dives.

The course is a rewarding one, giving an in depth knowledge of SCUBA diving and the safety to go out and explore in other parts of the world qualifying you to dive to a depth of 12 meters.

If you would like the Open Water Course as part of a holiday check out our Learn to Dive Holidays

After the age of 15, depth and buddy restrictions default to those of a regular PADI Open Water Diver.

Divers who were initially certified as a junior diver and wish to receive a new card that simply says “Open Water Diver” can order a replacement from their PADI Dive Center or the PADI Website. The new card will automatically be printed without the word “Junior” based on the diver’s age when the card is ordered.

There is no special action that needs to be taken during the order process to receive a card to get a card without the word Junior on it.

PADI Standards require you to have a manual we can supply a digital one for 50euros or a paper one for €55.

Our course costs include learning to dive with a dive computer, which in reality all divers use, making diving much easier.

PADI Junior Rescue Diver

The PADI Junior Rescue Diver program makes the subject of accident prevention and management not only fun, but extremely rewarding! Until now the emphasis of your training has been on basic accident prevention and safe diving. The PADI Junior Rescue Diver program takes you to the next level, expanding this to include accident management and rescue techniques. During the PADI Junior Rescue Diver program you’ll learn how to anticipate, prevent and manage potential dive accidents. From assisting a tired diver to handling emergency scenarios, you’ll practice applying the knowledge and skills that can make the difference in the unlikely event problems do arise.

You will need to have your PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver qualification or equivalent qualification from another organisation.. A current first aid qualification is required and the PADI Emergency First Response course is run in conjunction with the Rescue Diver course.

This part of the course develops the principles and information you will need for preventing and handling dive emergencies, with topics including self rescue, diver stress, diving first-aid, emergency management, equipment problems and rescue assistance procedures for both conscious and unconscious victims on the surface and underwater. Knowledge development is completed through independent study of the Rescue Diver manual and review sessions with your instructor.

During confined water training you will learn the techniques for handling various emergency situations:

  • Tired diver
  • Panicked diver
  • Response from shore/boat (conscious victim)
  • Distressed diver underwater
  • Missing diver
  • Surfacing the unconscious diver
  • Unconscious diver at the surface
  • Egress with an unconscious diver
  • First aid for pressure-related accidents
  • Response from shore/boat (unconscious victim)

As you master rescue techniques you will learn to adapt what you practice to suit the situation, your physical attributes, those of the victim and the nature of the diving environment.

You will review all the skills that you have learned in the pool and practice them in open water, after which you will take part in two open water training scenarios. These are completed at the end of the course and are an opportunity for you to bring together all that you have learned and apply your new techniques and skills in a realistic simulated rescue situation. Students will act as a team to manage and conduct the rescue with little or no assistance from your instructor.

This course is required for people who do not hold a current first aid qualification. EFR is a general first aid course and covers all aspects of CPR and first aid. It is not dive specific so is ideal for divers and non-divers alike. There are no prerequisites to this course so divers can bring family and friends to gain a first aid certification that could prove invaluable in all aspects of daily life.
