Easy Jet will be flying to Malta from May (flights from Manchester and Gatwick)
It's a bit of a double-edged sword as this takes over from GB Airways (BA's budget airline), from Manchester at the end of March. They have a 20kg baggage allowance and they will be offering the best prices from Manchester and Gatwick. You can book a extra 12kg for diving equipment for £30 return. Still, I have been able to find return flights on their website including the taxes and extra dive kit for under £100 so it's all good.

A former German Minesweeper has been scuttled to create an artificial reef for divers. The 62m-long Kondo class P29 sank upright and now lies at a depth of between 12m and 33m. See the U Tube video of it here.
The P29 was deliberately sunk about 170m from the shore between Cirkewwa Point and Lantern Point. It is the latest in a series of wrecks to be scuttled off Malta as artificial reefs for divers. Scuba Kings are now running weekly boat trips to dive the new wreck which is quickly becoming a favourite with divers as it is great for penetration dives. A lot of instrumentation and equipment has been left which give real atmosphere and character to the wreck.
Scuba Kings is pleased to announce it is now a BSAC Resort as well as a PADI Resort. To celebrate this we are extending our offer of a free bottle of wine to our customers with BSAC membership, booking a holiday with us. We intend to progress to become a BSAC Diver Training Centre this summer, so watch this space for further developments.
We are currently offering a free bottle of wine with the welcome pack for Students and Yorkshire Diver members when booking a holiday or group deal.
Also, we are happy to be able to offer a discount card that is issued free when you book a dive pack with us. The card entitles you to 10% off a full English breakfast at Marlene D's restaurant and 10% off any evening meal at Erizos de Mar (the best mediterranean cuisine on Gozo). Both restaurants are situated on Marsalforn Seafront.
Scuba Kings are looking for Trainee Divemasters. We offer the opportunity to pay off your course cost by working for us in our shop. Contact us for further details.
The new recompression chamber has been commissioned and is situated in the hospital in Victoria. It's central position means it's never further than 5 miles from any of the dive sites. This must surely make Gozo one of the safest places to dive.
Ryan Air Announces First Routes from Malta, it's 24th Country of Operation
Ryan Air, Europe's leading low fares airline, today (Thursday, 7th September 2006), announced the commencement of three new routes to Malta International Airport from London Luton, Pisa and Dublin. These routes are a direct response to the Maltese Government's initiative to attract low fare airlines to the island. The Government has accepted in full Ryan Air's proposals and the airline is now confirming the commencement dates and frequency of these services. Ryanair, on a year round basis, will fly a daily service from London Luton starting on the 31st October 2006, a three times weekly service from Pisa starting on the 31st October 2006 and a three times weekly service from Dublin, which commences on the 9th February 2007.
The Gozo government has sunk two new wrecks with the help of EU funds
The sinking of the Karwela and the Comino Land was a huge success, if not a very timely event. After nearly six hours of waiting the Karwela went down, very spectacularly and is now lying upright with the bottom at about 40 meters. The Comino Land followed quite quickly and gave a bit of a scare as it seemed to capsize when it went over. This time however they had attached floats to the top side of the wrecks and these managed to keep the decks up as they sank. The Comino Land is now lying slightly on its side and the deck is at 29m. They have put the boats quite close to each other and are easily accessible from shore. We even have ladders to help in and out.
There is quite a nice reef near the exit at 7 to 5 meters, which is perfect for working of the deco and making safety stops. The road and the car park have also been improved and there are no problems taking even a small car down there now.
The big benefit for this project is that we can get a north westerly wind that last 2-3 days and this used to limit the choice of dive sites from shore to about 6 which crammed everyone into a few places. Now we have some huge wrecks to dive and a real lot of choice when the north westerly blows.
